High court orders CBI probe into primary corruption: 269 teachers Termination of appointment of primary school in West Bengal. In 2014, the notification of recruitment of teachers in primary schools was published. TET was held the following year, October 11, 2015. The results were released in September 2016. In the same year, the Board of Primary Education published the first merit list and appointed 42,000 successful candidates as teachers.
The board formed the second panel on July 6, 2016 and appointed a total of 269 people. The beginning of this case is centered on that incident. Several candidates, including Ramesh Mali and Bithika Adak, approached the High Court in 2019 challenging the legitimacy of the entire panel.
At the hearing of the case on the same day, the lawyer of the board Lakshmi Gupta said that the board decided to increase the number of candidates by 1 with the approval of the education department as the question was wrong in the 2014 TET. As a result, 269 more succeeded.
They were appointed by forming a second panel. The petitioners lawyers Bikasharanjan Bhattacharya and Sudipta Dasgupta countered by claiming that there were many candidates in the panel who did not pass the TET even after getting 1 number. But they have been given appointment letters. Even 68 people got jobs from one district.
The judge raised the question, how was the second panel formed without any notification? Moreover, after the increase in the number of criteria, 269 out of 23 million candidates were selected? Justice Gangopadhyay then handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. They will have to submit their preliminary report tomorrow, June 15.
