The Chief Minister attended a function on the occasion of Christmas in the city on Thursday. There he announced to increase the allowance. Until then state government employees used to get DA at the rate of 6 percent. They will get 10 percent DA from Thursday’s announcement. Mamata said that this announcement will be effective from January 1, 2024. Pensioners will also get DA at an increased rate.

The increase in DA reduced the dearness gap between central government employees and state government employees by 36 percent. Central government employees currently get 46 per cent DA. At the time of Mamata’s announcement, the Centre-State difference has been explained in this regard. He said that DA is mandatory for central government. But that is not the case with state governments. DA is optional in the state.
The Chief Minister said the 4 per cent increase in DA for state government employees will cost the government Rs 2,400 crore. 14 lakh government employees of the state will benefit from this. Mamata hailed the increase in gratuity for government employees as a Christmas and New Year ‘gift’.
